Jeff Buckley's Mom

One of my biggest musical influences is Jeff Buckley. I was exposed to him in college and have been hooked since. If you have never listened..YOU MUST, Kim' s orders. This man had so much talent running through his veins - He had the ability to understand and relay the most moving melodies, guitar riffs, and emotional lyrics and he did so with a set of pipes people only dream of. It makes me so sad that he died so young because just imagine what musical masterpieces he would be creating today.

So I was invited to a halloween Part that Mary (Jeff's Mom) has every year in LA. I couldn't believe I got to be there and just to look at the woman who gave birth to such a musical genius. The party was on saturday 10/29 so at midnight I would be my b-day. About 2 minutes after I turned one year older (do you like how I dabble around my age?) I decided to chat with Mary. I asked her about one of my favorite jeff songs, "Morning Theft" (from album My sweetheart the drunk) She shared what she knew with me and we talked about the process of gathering up jeffs songs and putting together that album after he died. I told her how much it meant for me to be there and I also said expecially since it is now officially my birthday. She looked at me a exclaimed "Its Kim's Birthday!!!" and she proceeded to lead the whole party in a birthday song serenade. I immediately started crying, tearing up what have you. I think because that exact moment solidified how much I love my life, and how happy I am to have it for all its ups and downs. These are the little things that make you realize that we are all so lucky to be here and that we all have the ability to do anything with our lives if we just take the chance enough to do so...and when you do AMAZING things keep on happening (sure crappy things take place too ) but I believe that when you are true to yourself and grab fear by the balls (yes, I jsut said that!) then you open up the door for spectacular things.

That weekend I got to spend precious time and catch with dear friends (on the East & West coasts) and it was definitely one of the best birthday's ever. Thank you!
Luv, Kim

With Mary
